Programmes
Quantitative Research and Trading internship (Europe and Middle East)
It runs in Aarhus, Budapest, Dubai, Geneva, London, Paris or Zurich, for 4 to 6 months starting in 2027. It takes penultimate-year and final-year students on a bachelor's, master's or PhD, and the same posting has some permanent roles.
You could work in Research or in Trading, inside one of QRT's systematic teams. Those teams span high, mid and low frequencies.
Research interns build predictive signals from large and varied datasets. You form a hypothesis, design a test and iterate.
Trading interns work with the systematic trading platform. You watch how signals behave in production, track performance, improve execution efficiency and help manage risk.
You should be studying a quantitative subject such as data science, statistics, maths, physics or engineering, and have coding experience in at least one leading language such as Python, C++ or C#. Statistics, machine learning, NLP or AI help but are not essential.
Quantitative Research and Trading, internship or graduate (Asia)
The posting covers Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing. The internship lasts 3 to 6 months from 2027, and the same posting hires graduates. The form asks whether you are open to an internship and for how long.
Software Engineering and Quantitative Development internship (Europe and Middle East)
It runs 3 to 6 months, or as a 12-month industrial placement, starting in 2027. There are two disciplines: Software Engineer in London, Wrocław and Zurich, and Quantitative Developer in London, Paris, Wrocław, Dubai, Aarhus and Amsterdam.
It takes penultimate-year and final-year STEM students on a bachelor's or master's, in subjects such as computer science, physics, maths or engineering, on track for a 2:1 or above from a leading institution. You should be familiar with a scripting language such as Python or Bash, plus Git, SQL, GCC and Linux.
Strong interns may be considered for a full-time graduate role.
Technology internship (US)
It is a 10-week summer internship with four disciplines: Software Engineer, Security Engineer and Infrastructure Engineer in New York, and FPGA Engineer in New York and Chicago. Interns join a team from day one.
Other technology roles for 2027
In Asia, the Software Engineer and Quantitative Developer posting covers Hong Kong and Singapore. It takes penultimate-year and final-year bachelor's or master's students for a 3 to 6 month internship and has some permanent roles.
The FPGA Engineering posting for London, Paris and New York is a 3 to 6 month internship or a full-time graduate role.
PhD and postdoc quantitative researchers
QRT keeps an open posting for final-year PhD students and postdocs in London, Paris and Zurich. It has been up since September 2025. You get mentoring from experienced staff and work next to people who moved from academia into applied research.
Other routes in
Through its Manchester University partnership, QRT gives select undergraduates 1-year technology placements and select PhD students 6-month internships. It also funds scholarships and takes part in careers forums there.
The board lists a VIE in Research role in London, a French international volunteer placement. You apply on Greenhouse and on Business France's VIE site.
Application
Apply early. QRT recommends it for the technology internships because it reviews applications on a rolling basis.
QRT says it reads applications carefully and finds thoughtful answers about your interests and motivation useful.
Written questions
The Europe and Middle East quant research and trading form requires answers on:
- Why you want an internship in finance, and at a hedge fund in particular.
- Why QRT.
- Which quantitative techniques or modelling methods you most want to apply to financial markets, and why.
- Which QRT campus event you attended, naming the university and the event, or N/A.
- Whether you could start a full-time role straight after the internship.
Draft the motivation and techniques answers before you open the form. For the techniques question, name a specific method and say why you would use it on market data.
The Europe and Middle East technology form requires answers on which part of software engineering excites you most and why, and which programming language you want to use during the internship.
The Asia quant research and trading form has an optional question on your preferred asset classes or strategies and your reasons.
Campus team
QRT's campus team works with French universities, Grandes Écoles and student societies. If you go to a QRT campus event, note the university and the event name, because the Europe and Middle East quant research and trading form asks for both.
Questions about campus, internship and graduate programmes go to the campus inbox on QRT's careers page.
Before you apply
In Asia, students and fresh graduates should use the internship and graduate postings. QRT's experienced Quantitative Researcher/Trader posting for Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai rejects them.
QRT does not make job offers over WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, WeChat or other social platforms. It advertises roles on its official LinkedIn page, through recognised recruitment firms or through its own staff.
Coding challenge
The Europe and Middle East postings for quant research and trading and for technology both list a coding challenge after the application, for selected candidates. It covers core programming and problem solving.
QRT does not name the platform, length or format. Practise core programming problems in the language you code in most.
On the 2027 FPGA Engineering posting for London, Paris and New York, this stage is a technical interview with the relevant team.
The PhD and postdoc posting lists only the online application and interviews. QRT invites those candidates to take one of its Data Challenges, which it says shows you the daily work of the role and helps it assess your abilities and interest.
Interviews
On the Europe and Middle East quant research and trading posting, shortlisted candidates interview on-site or over Microsoft Teams. QRT says the interviews explore your quantitative and technical thinking, how you approach unfamiliar problems and how you work with others.
Technology assessment centre
For the Europe and Middle East technology internships, on-site interviews are at an assessment centre, with Teams as the alternative. They explore your technical thinking, how you approach unfamiliar problems and how you work with others. The posting gives no number of rounds or their length.
PhD and postdoc interviews
Interviews are on-site or over Teams. They assess your technical expertise and your fit with QRT's collaborative culture.
What QRT looks for
QRT wants interns who are curious, creative and collaborative, and who can explain their reasoning and communicate technical ideas clearly.
It calls the internship environment rigorous and collaborative: ideas are tested against data and assumptions get challenged.
Through the process QRT weighs your skills and interests against the problems its teams are working on. Know whether you want Research or Trading, and why.
Data Challenges
QRT encourages quant candidates to enter one of its Data Challenges, which it links on the ENS Challenge Data site. They are problems relevant to quantitative research, and a strong result may lead to QRT's team following up with you directly.
As of January 2026, QRT's Challenge Data problem is Asset Allocation Performance forecasting, opened on 22 January 2026 and rated intermediate: you predict the sign of an asset allocation's next-day return from 20 days of history, to decide whether to follow it or short it, and you are scored on accuracy.
As of 2026, the 2025 Challenge Data season has been extended into 2026, and the usual format returns in 2027 with about ten new challenges.
How to prepare
- Practise unfamiliar problems out loud, saying each step as you go. QRT's interviews look at how you approach unfamiliar problems, and it wants interns who can explain their reasoning clearly.
- For the Research track, bring one project where you formed a hypothesis, tested it on data and changed it. That is the loop QRT describes for its research interns.
