Millennium Interview Guide

Millennium's 2027 Internship Program is open, and you can send at most two applications. After screening come technical and non-technical assessments, then technical and behavioural interviews tailored to the role and team.

2027 Internship Program: applications opened on 3 August and roles fill on a rolling basis, so apply as early as you can.

What we know

  • You do not need financial-markets experience. Millennium gives interns in-depth training on markets.
  • You can send at most two applications, and applying in a second location uses one of them.
  • The process differs by role.
  1. 1. Screening

Millennium checks your eligibility. Match the posting's graduation window and degree or grade bar before you spend an application on it.

  2. 2. Assessments

Technical and non-technical evaluations that Millennium uses to match you with hiring teams. The mix depends on the role.

  3. 3. Interviews

Technical and behavioural interviews, tailored to the role and the team.

Overview

Millennium is a global, diversified alternative investment firm, running since 1989. As of October 2026, it is an investment manager with a multistrategy hedge fund, founded by Israel Englander and Ronald Shear.

It has more than 370 investment teams. Each runs its own strategy and team on Millennium's platform, and together they cover many sectors, asset classes and regions.

One of its strategy groups, Quantitative Strategies, builds mainly systematic investment processes across a variety of asset classes.

Millennium has more than 7,100 employees in more than 140 locations. New York and London are its two principal offices.

Programmes

2027 Internship Program

As of 5 November 2026 the campus job board lists 32 open roles, all of them internships. They include 2027 Quantitative Researcher, Quantitative Developer and Applied AI Engineer intern roles, plus off-cycle trading internships in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Quantitative roles turn data into insights and help develop models that support investment strategies. Engineering and AI roles contribute to solutions for trading, AI and risk management. As of August 2026 there is also a track for AI interns, who help design, develop and implement AI solutions.

Quantitative Researcher intern

London and Hong Kong start in June 2027 and run about 11 weeks. Paris starts in March 2027 and lasts about six months.

Interns backtest strategies to judge how they perform, how well they hold up and whether they work in practice.

Off-Cycle Trading Intern, 2027

The Hong Kong role takes 2 to 3 interns into a Portfolio Management team in Asia. It lasts at least six months, and strong performers can convert to a full-time role.

Investment internship

As of June 2026, Millennium's new investment internship starts in 2027 and puts interns to work directly with senior portfolio managers in New York, London and Hong Kong, with a chance at full-time analyst roles for those who impress.

As of 5 June 2026, it was no longer taking applications for 2027.

Analyst programmes

As of September 2025, Millennium runs a graduate programme for equity analysts with UBS equity research, a quant research analyst programme and a machine learning and data analyst programme in Miami.

Application and screening

The bar differs by posting. For the 2027 quant researcher internships:

  • London, New York and Paris: graduating between December 2027 and July 2028.
  • London: on track for a 2:1 or a first.
  • New York: a Master's in a technical or quantitative subject, such as financial engineering, statistics, applied maths, physics or computer science, with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Hong Kong: Bachelor's or Master's students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.

The New York quant developer internship takes Bachelor's or Master's students with an expected GPA of 3.5 or above.

Assessments

Millennium suggests reading the job posting and the content on its website for a sense of the skills it assesses. The 2027 intern postings list these:

  • Quantitative Researcher (London): demonstrated Python, with C++ a plus, an in-depth research project on real-world data, and using AI tools in quant work.
  • Quantitative Developer (London): strong Python, C++ or Java with a focus on production-quality code, data structures, algorithms and system design, plus probability, statistics and numerical computing.
  • Applied AI Engineer (London): current AI and machine learning, including large language models, plus data structures, algorithms and computational complexity.

Interviews

Millennium says its interviews assess your areas of interest, your applicable skills and your potential. It suggests drawing on your past experience, projects and coursework.

For quant research, have your research project on real-world data ready to walk through. The posting also asks for the ability to use AI tools in quant work and to explain the method, the rationale and how the output was validated.

On the careers page, Chief Marketing Officer John Novogratz names integrity, work ethic, entrepreneurial energy and emotional intelligence as very important at Millennium. Have a story ready for each.

Hiring into a pod

As of September 2025, a senior portfolio manager hired to run a pod often sources and interviews junior PMs and analysts personally, and because Millennium is less centralised than Citadel, those interviews can vary. That is pod hiring, separate from the campus internship process.

The internship and return offers

Interns learn on the desk through project work next to their team. The summer programme adds professional-development and financial-markets training, networking events and talks from senior leaders.

All interns get exposure to AI projects and structured training on the firm's AI tools. In summer 2026, interns in New York, Miami, London, Dublin and Tel Aviv competed in the firm's first Intern AI Hackathon.

Millennium says many factors go into a return offer, and its goal is to hire its analyst class from its interns.

Meet Millennium

Meet Millennium 2026 was a one-day event for undergraduate and master's students, designed as an insight into the 2027 Summer Intern Program. It covered software development and quantitative engineering, in London and New York and, for the first time, in Miami and Singapore.

Students did interactive technical challenges and talked with Millennium staff. One highlight was a quant and engineering simulation, where students worked together on market and investing challenges.

Millennium brainteasers

Millennium posts brainteasers on its Life at Millennium blog, under the Students topic. It does not say they appear in interviews.

The March 2026 one is a geometric probability puzzle. It drops 6,000 points uniformly into a 3-4-5 triangle and asks how long it takes to visit every point inside the inscribed circle, at one a year. Millennium's answer is about 3,142 years, a millennium times pi.

How to prepare

  • For quant developer roles, practise probability and statistics alongside data structures and algorithms in Python, C++ or Java. The London posting lists both, and Millennium suggests reading the posting for a sense of the skills it assesses.
  • For the March 2026 brainteaser, get the inscribed circle's radius from the triangle's area and semi-perimeter, then multiply 6,000 by the share of the triangle the circle covers.
