Maverick Derivatives Interview Guide

Maverick Derivatives is an Amsterdam proprietary trading firm with a second office in Singapore, and its expertise is trading volatility. As of November 2026 it has no internship or graduate posting. The closest fit for a graduate is the Singapore Crypto Options Trader role, whose process starts with CV selection and a 60-minute aptitude assessment.

What we know

  • As of November 2026, the board lists two jobs, both in trading and both tagged Experienced: Crypto Options Trader in Singapore and Experienced Trader in Amsterdam.
  • The Singapore role lists options trading experience only as a nice-to-have. The Amsterdam role needs five or more years in a trading role.
  • Only the Singapore posting lists a test, and it names no provider or format.
  • Neither posting says what the technical interviews cover.
  1. 1. CV selection

Apply through the careers page or the firm's recruitment platform. The Singapore process opens with a CV screen.

  2. 2. Aptitude assessment (Singapore)

A 60-minute aptitude assessment. The Amsterdam posting lists no test.

  3. 3. Introductory interview

A 30-minute first interview, in both postings.

  4. 4. Technical interviews

Amsterdam lists two, each 60 minutes and on-site if possible. Singapore lists its technical interviews at 60 minutes, on-site if possible, and does not say how many there are.

  5. 5. Pre-employment screening

The Singapore posting puts a pre-employment screening last, and both postings say it is part of selection.

Overview

Maverick Derivatives is a proprietary trading firm founded in 2017 by experienced high-frequency traders. Its expertise is trading volatility-related instruments, and it uses that to look for opportunities across many asset classes.

As of October 2026, it specialises in US equity options, crypto options and Delta One products, trading mainly on US markets and crypto exchanges with its own in-house software.

The Amsterdam office is in the World Trade Center on Strawinskylaan.

The careers page calls the team modest, mostly traders, developers and IT specialists, and says the firm is expanding. The structure is flat, and Maverick says ideas count for more than roles.

Roles and programmes

The privacy statement covers people who applied for a job or an internship at Maverick, but it names no internship programme and none is posted. Check the board again each cycle.

Crypto Options Trader, Singapore

Maverick first posted this role on 2 September 2026 and last updated it on 13 October 2026. Of the two jobs, it is the one to look at if you have not traded before.

You execute trades on the crypto options desk under senior traders, support research, modelling and automation projects, and help design and test strategies. Over time you own your trading decisions.

You need to be free for three months of training in the Amsterdam office before you join the Singapore team. The posting also lists formal training with continuous feedback.

The requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative or analytical subject, such as computer science, maths, engineering, physics or econometrics.
  • A strong understanding of options theory.
  • Python and SQL for automation and data analysis.
  • Experience taking a coding or machine learning project from start to finish.

Nice to have: some options trading experience, ideally in crypto options, and familiarity with Git. Already living in Singapore as a citizen or permanent resident helps but is not required.

Experienced Trader, Amsterdam

Maverick first posted this role on 13 August 2026. The job is volatility trading, with both position-taking and market-making strategies.

It needs five or more years trading crypto options, US equity options or Delta One, plus a record of profitable trades, and Maverick only considers candidates in the Netherlands. It is not a student role.

Application

You can apply through the careers page or the firm's recruitment platform. Maverick may also receive your application through a recruitment agency.

Maverick checks your right to work, including nationality, visa and permit. It does not say whether it sponsors visas, so ask early if you would need one.

If you need adjustments during the process, the Singapore posting asks you to email the recruitment team.

Online assessment

The Singapore aptitude assessment runs 60 minutes, straight after CV selection. Maverick publishes no provider or format for it.

The privacy statement says Maverick may use external assessment platforms to evaluate your answers.

Interviews

What the trader postings ask for

Both trader postings ask for:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with fast, confident decisions under pressure.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset, competitive drive and attention to detail.
  • Clear communication, a collaborative approach and strong interpersonal skills.

For Singapore, pick one coding or machine learning project you took from start to finish and be ready to walk through it. The posting asks for that experience, plus Python and SQL.

How to prepare

  • Revise options theory before you apply, since the Singapore role lists a strong understanding of it as a requirement. Be able to price a simple payoff from its probabilities and say how volatility changes an option's value.
  • Do a full hour of timed questions in one sitting. The Singapore aptitude assessment runs 60 minutes and its format is unpublished.
  • Add timed reasoning sets alongside the arithmetic, since Maverick calls the Singapore test an aptitude assessment.
  • Train quick calls against a clock. Both trader postings ask for fast, confident decisions under pressure.
  • The Amsterdam trader role trades volatility with both position-taking and market-making strategies. Practise quoting a two-sided price and managing the position a fill leaves you with.
