Man Group is a global alternative investment manager with Systematic, Discretionary and Solutions offerings. It managed $253.6 billion as at 30 June 2026 and is listed on the London Stock Exchange under EMG.LN, in the FTSE 250. As of July 2026, it is the world's largest publicly traded hedge fund company.

James Man founded the business in 1783 in the City of London as a sugar cooperage and brokerage. It now has 25 offices in more than 14 countries, and the head office is Riverbank House, 2 Swan Lane, London.

Man AHL began in 1987 as a Commodity Trading Advisor. Man Group took a majority stake in 1989 and bought the rest in 1994.

Man Numeric builds quantitative stock selection models and calls its culture research-driven.

Man Central Trading is a team of more than 50 traders, execution researchers and engineers working across several offices.

AHL Quant Researcher internship

The September 2026 posting for the 2027 intake offered two routes: a 3-month summer internship from June to September 2027, or a 6-month off-cycle internship with a start date that fits your circumstances.

Man's programme page says interns run a self-contained research project meant to affect AHL's performance, with a mentor, and present the work to the research team. Strong interns may be offered a place on the Quant Talent Programme.

The posting wants strong maths, statistics or computing, from degrees such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics or Econometrics, Engineering and Physics. Bachelor's to PhD students can apply.

IDI Summer Internship

A 12-week placement in AHL Investment and Data Implementation (IDI) in London, from 21 June to 10 September 2027, for penultimate-year university students. You need the right to work in the UK, and a strong internship does not guarantee a graduate place.

The 2027 form described IDI as sitting between quantitative research, portfolio management and trading technology. It then asked why that kind of cross-functional implementation role appeals to you more than pure research or software engineering. Draft that answer before you open the form.

Investment Risk internship

For penultimate-year students graduating in 2028. The programme runs 21 June to 10 September 2027.

Summer Technology Internship

Three, four or six months in London, embedded in one team, for students in the penultimate year of a bachelor's or master's. You get formal training, a buddy and a mentor.

Strong interns may be offered a full-time place on the Technology Foundation Programme, Man's technology graduate scheme.

Internships outside London

• New York: as of October 2026, Man Systematic's Fast Trading Strategies team is hiring PhD students for a 10 to 12-week summer internship in ML engineering or quant research. The posting says Man's summer internships are open to penultimate-year students only.
• Massachusetts: as of November 2026, a summer 2027 Systematic Quant Intern role for PhD students is open. You develop equity strategies in the Strategic Alpha Research team.
• Shanghai: a Quant Research Analyst Intern role went up in September 2026. You work with portfolio managers and analysts to implement investment strategies.

Graduate programmes

Man's rotational graduate schemes take graduates from various degree disciplines.

AHL Quant Talent Programme

Eighteen months of three 6-month rotations across quant functions such as alpha research, portfolio construction, execution research and risk management. It starts with a formal training programme, and every participant gets a mentor.

Central Trading Graduate Programme

Two years of four 6-month rotations, then you become a Junior Quant in Central Trading. Rotations cover areas such as systematic trading, discretionary trading, execution research, alpha research, portfolio construction and risk management. Man considers applicants with strong maths, statistics or computing skills, from Bachelor's to PhD level.

AHL IDI Graduate Analyst

In the July 2026 posting, you spend months 1 to 6 in IDI. Then you do three 4-month rotations with teams such as Business Management, Investment Risk, Execution Analytics and Trade Operations & Middle Office Accounting, and go back to IDI.

Technology Graduate Programme in Sofia

As of November 2026, Man has live software engineer roles on this programme in Sofia, one in Python and one in C#/.Net. The Python version moves you through three Python teams over two years.

AHL programmes take applications through Man's online portal only. Man will not accept one sent by email.

If the advert names a deadline, expect to hear nothing before it. Man invites nobody to the next stage until that date has passed.

The July 2026 IDI graduate posting recruited on a rolling basis and could close early, so apply to a rolling role as soon as it opens.

For the New York PhD internship, apply once, from your university email address, with a resume that lists every post-secondary GPA, finished or in progress.

Timelines in recent postings

• AHL Quant Researcher internship, IDI Summer Internship and AHL Quant Talent Programme: applications in September, online tests in October, technical interviews in October or November, and an assessment centre in October or November at the London office.
• Investment Risk internship: applications from 28 September to 12 October 2026, online tests in October, technical interviews in October or November, and the assessment centre in November or December.
• Summer Technology Internship: applications from 16 September to 30 October 2026, then a technical homework, a technical interview and a final interview.
• AHL IDI Graduate Analyst (July 2026 posting): aptitude and coding tests, a soft skills and core values assessment centre, then a final interview.

Your test depends on the role. The job advert says whether a psychometric assessment is part of the process, so you know before you apply.

The psychometric test is behaviour-based. An external provider runs it and emails you the access details. Man says there is no right or wrong answer, so answer the way you naturally would and don't try to work out what is being tested.

Every assessment Man uses has practice rounds. Do them first so the format and instructions are familiar.

What the recent postings say about the tests:

• 2027 AHL Quant Researcher, IDI and Investment Risk internships and the AHL Quant Talent Programme: online tests in October.
• AHL IDI Graduate Analyst (July 2026 posting): aptitude and coding tests.
• Summer Technology Internship: a technical homework assignment that should take no more than an hour.
• Technology Graduate Programme in Sofia: a tech test. The posting asks you to apply even without every listed requirement if you can pass it.

If you are shortlisted, you get a video or telephone interview, depending on the role, where you talk about yourself, your skills and your experience.

At this stage the video interview is pre-recorded, and the invitation and instructions come from Sonru, Man's software partner. You can re-record only if something outside your control, such as a lost connection or a loud noise, spoils the first take.

The 2027 AHL Quant Researcher, IDI and Investment Risk postings list technical interviews after the online tests. In the 2026 AHL summer internship posting, from October 2025, that round was Webex interviews.

The Summer Technology Internship's technical interview is one hour with an engineer from the team, testing your coding.

Man assesses a range of skills across its interviews and expects you to be stronger in some areas than others.

What the quant postings ask for

• AHL Quant Researcher internship: an interest in algorithmic trading, financial derivatives and markets, plus independent research experience. Python helps but is not essential.
• New York Fast Trading quant research interns must be strong programmers, especially in Python. Prior ML or statistical research internship experience is strongly preferred.
• Massachusetts PhD quant intern: strong intuition, a track record of original research and proven problem solving.

Man says academic excellence matters, and it is just as interested in your perspective, problem-solving and drive. In the IDI graduate posting, it says it looks mainly for mindset and soft skills, since technical skills develop over time.

A graduate quoted on Man's students page says to be ready to explain why you want to work at Man rather than at a generic asset manager. Knowing how AHL, Numeric and Central Trading differ gives you something concrete to say.

Man's students page says some final rounds run virtually. Don't plan on that for the 2027 AHL Quant Researcher, IDI and Investment Risk internships or the AHL Quant Talent Programme: their postings say you must attend the assessment centre at the London office.

In the July 2026 IDI graduate posting, the assessment centre is on soft skills and core values and is followed by a final interview. The Summer Technology Internship ends with a 30-minute final interview with a technology manager, in the London office or by video call.

Unless your invitation says otherwise, you do not need to prepare anything specific. Man suggests reading company and industry news, rehearsing answers to likely questions, and practising interviews and presentations with friends and family.

You get no individual feedback after a CV review or a video or telephone interview. After a face-to-face interview or an assessment day, Man talks through your performance with you and tries to give detailed feedback.

Every graduate trainee gets a mentor from Man's Senior Management Committee and a buddy from its NextGen working group.

You can take professional qualifications such as the CFA, IMC and ACCA while on the graduate programme.

A June 2026 Man job posting mentions emerging-talent events at Man's offices, including work experience programmes and insight days.

Man's Paving the Way initiative works with schools, universities and charities to visit students and invite them to Man Group, with the aim of widening diversity in finance.

Does Man Group have a graduate programme?

Yes. Its graduate schemes are rotational and last 18 to 24 months. What is the Man Group online assessment?

Who can apply for Man Group internships?
