DV Trading Interview Guide

DV Trading is a proprietary trading firm headquartered in Chicago, hiring summer 2027 interns and 2027 graduates in New York, London, Chicago and Hong Kong. You apply on its Greenhouse job board. No posting describes the interview rounds, so prepare the probability and statistics the New York quant trading roles ask for.

Updated November 2026. The Hong Kong quant trader graduate role went up on 4 May 2026, the DV Commodities trading internships in August, and the New York quant trading internship and graduate role on 11 September. No posting lists a deadline.

What we know

  • DV Commodities, DV Securities, DVQES and the DV Equities desk all have student roles on DV's Greenhouse job board, and the graduation window changes from one posting to the next.
  • The New York quant trading internship wants strong Python and highly prefers C++.
  • Both DV Commodities trading internships, in New York and London, need you onsite five days a week.
  1. 1. Application

Apply on DV's Greenhouse job board. Pick the posting for your business, role and city, and check its graduation window first.

  2. 2. Screening questions

Some forms add screening questions on prop-firm internships, your graduation date and visa sponsorship.

  3. 3. After you apply

The trading, research and engineering postings do not say what follows. The only published test is for one London Junior Trading Operations Analyst role, which starts with two short online assessments.

  4. 4. Full-time role

DV Commodities considers strong interns for full-time roles once they graduate. The futures and options internship lists a potential path to a full-time role.

Overview

DV Trading is a North American proprietary trading firm that trades on derivatives and securities exchanges worldwide. It trades its own capital as both a liquidity maker and a liquidity taker, on a quantitative and a discretionary basis.

It trades futures, options, equities, FX, fixed income and crypto. Its job postings put the DV Group at more than 600 people across North America, Europe and Asia.

Dino Verbrugge co-founded DV Trading in Toronto in 2006, as the proprietary trading division of a US futures commission merchant, and it soon expanded to Chicago. Jared Vegosen has led the US business from the Chicago headquarters.

In 2016 DV Trading spun out of its parent brokerage into DV Group. In 2022 it bought the Allston Trading business, including its low-latency systems and trading tools.

DV lists offices in Chicago, Houston, Miami, New York, Northfield, Toronto, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Copenhagen and London.

The businesses and desks that hire students

  • DV Commodities: commodities trading. It says its alpha comes mainly from combining market making with proprietary trading strategies. DV Group renamed it from DV Energy in April 2025.
  • DVQES (DV Quantitative Equity Strategies): makes markets in equities and ETFs, quoting prices with the firm's own capital. It lists offices in London, Hong Kong, New York and Dubai.
  • DV Equities: the equities desk named in the New York quant trading, quant research and quant trader graduate postings. The Hong Kong DVQES postings use the same desk name.
  • DV Securities: home of the Liquid Products Group, which runs the futures and options internship.

Programmes

DVQES hires graduates and interns into trading, research and software development. DV Commodities says it builds new desks with graduate hires as well as experienced ones.

Quantitative Trading Intern, DV Equities, New York

This summer 2027 internship is for students graduating by summer 2027 or summer 2028. The Hong Kong quant trading internship at DVQES takes only students graduating by summer 2027.

Senior traders and quant researchers mentor you, in a fairly flat structure. You write up your research findings, trading performance and recommendations as reports and presentations.

Trading Intern, DV Commodities, New York and London

DV aims to rotate you across at least two desks, so you can find the trading style that suits you. In New York, senior and junior traders both mentor you, and you get regular contact with senior leadership.

In London you learn strategies that range from market making in oil products to fundamental discretionary trading in European gas and power. The London posting also has you build and maintain tools for the desk, such as analytics dashboards, or back-test your own ideas and present them to the team.

Both postings need you onsite five days a week. London takes students graduating by summer 2027 or summer 2028. New York wants a degree in maths, statistics, economics, computer science, engineering or a related subject, finishing by summer 2028.

Quantitative Research Intern, DV Equities, New York

This summer 2027 internship is for students graduating in 2027 or 2028. You use statistics and machine learning, with an emphasis on tree-based methods, to improve signal quality. You need strong Python, including pandas and NumPy.

Other internships

  • Futures & Options Trading Analyst Intern, DV Securities, New York: four weeks in summer 2027.
  • Quantitative Risk Intern, Chicago: summer 2027, for students graduating between winter 2027 and summer 2028.
  • Software Developer Intern, DV Equities: depending on your main language, you work on low-latency C++ components or on Python data and backtesting tools.

Graduate roles

  • Quantitative Trader Graduate, DV Equities, New York: you help execute and risk-manage systematic strategies across global equity markets, and learn the firm's methods and systems alongside senior traders.
  • Quantitative Trader Graduate, DVQES, Hong Kong: for Bachelor's, Master's or PhD students in a quantitative subject who graduate by summer 2027.
  • Quantitative Researcher Graduate, DVQES, Hong Kong: you own systematic signal generation across several time horizons on the equities team.
  • Graduate Software Engineer, DV Commodities: London is for computer science, computer engineering or related students graduating by December 2026 or January 2027, and New York for those graduating by summer 2027.

Junior roles

The Junior Fixed Income Relative Value Trader works full time from the Northfield, Illinois office for at least the first 18 months. Fixed-income or trading-desk experience is valuable but not required if you can show unusual ability, intellectual curiosity and drive. You get more autonomy as your skills develop.

A second London Junior Trading Operations Analyst posting, separate from the one with the online assessments, is aimed at recent graduates and needs no financial-industry experience.

Application

The New York quant trading internship form asks whether you have relevant internship experience at a proprietary trading firm. The posting highly prefers market exposure through internships, academic projects or competitions, so if you have no prop-firm internship, list your projects and competitions.

The New York DV Commodities trading form asks you to re-confirm your expected graduation date and whether you need visa sponsorship. If you will work on a student visa, answer Yes.

For the Junior Fixed Income Relative Value Trader you send a CV and a short cover letter. It should say why you want to trade fixed-income relative value, what you have built or achieved, and why you are ready for an intense, fully in-office job.

As of September 2026, DV Trading is one of the sponsors of the Archimedeans, the University of Cambridge maths society, whose sponsors get chances to advertise to members and take part in events at Cambridge. Watch the society's events if you study there.

Online assessment

No trading, research or engineering posting names a test.

The one posting that does is a Junior Trading Operations Analyst role at DV Commodities in London. If your application is chosen, the first step is two short online assessments.

What DV asks for

The New York quant trader graduate role asks for a strong foundation in maths, probability and statistics. It also wants people who stay calm and communicate clearly under pressure.

The New York quant trading internship asks for familiarity with probability, statistics and time-series analysis. It wants strong Python and highly prefers C++.

The futures and options internship needs a strong understanding of futures and options and a solid base in probability, statistics and linear algebra. Knowing option pricing models such as Black-Scholes and binomial trees is preferred.

Developer interns at DV Equities need a solid grasp of data structures, algorithms and object-oriented design. DV Commodities expects its software engineering interns to use AI coding tools, review the code those tools write and own its correctness.

Ownership is one of DV's core values, and the firm says it applies to everyone from interns to senior leaders. DV Commodities describes a flat structure where the best idea wins.

How to prepare

  • Revise probability, statistics and time-series analysis together. The New York quant trading internship names all three.
  • The futures and options internship asks for a solid base in probability, statistics and linear algebra, and prefers candidates who know Black-Scholes and binomial trees. Start with probability.
  • Practise answering against the clock while you explain your working out loud. The New York quant trader graduate posting asks for composure and clear communication under pressure.
  • Before you apply to a DV Commodities or DVQES desk, practise quoting a two-sided price and managing the position a fill leaves you with.
